Logo & icon prompts

Diffusion models do not make production logos, but they are great at concepts and marks. The trick is forcing simplicity — flat, minimal, vector-style — instead of the busy default.

Best model: Flux or SDXL. Flux is better when the logo needs legible lettering; SDXL is fine for pure marks.

Left to its own devices a diffusion model makes logos that are far too detailed — gradients, textures, 3D bevels, drop shadows. Good logo prompting is mostly subtraction: ask explicitly for flat color, simple geometric shapes, minimal, vector style, and a plain background, and negative-prompt the clutter.

Treat the result as a concept, not a deliverable — generate a mark you like, then rebuild it cleanly in real vector software. For exploration, the model is a fast idea machine.

Flat mascot mark
minimalist flat vector logo of a fox head, simple geometric shapes, two flat colors, bold clean lines, negative space, centered, plain white background, modern, professional, high contrast

Negative: gradient, 3d, bevel, drop shadow, realistic, photographic, texture, cluttered, detailed, busy, text, watermark

Abstract app icon
flat design app icon, abstract geometric mark, rounded square, two-tone flat color, subtle depth, centered, plain background, clean, modern, minimal

Negative: realistic, photo, 3d render, gradient mesh, noisy, cluttered, text, watermark, lowres

Tips that actually move the needle

  • Say "flat", "vector style", "minimal" and "simple geometric shapes" — and mean it. Under-describe rather than over-describe.
  • Ask for a "plain white background" so the mark is easy to cut out and iterate on.
  • Heavily negative-prompt the clutter: "gradient, 3d, bevel, drop shadow, texture, busy, photographic".
  • Limit the palette in words ("two flat colors", "two-tone") — unconstrained color is what makes AI logos look amateur.
  • For lettering, prefer Flux and put the exact word in quotes; expect to redraw type in real software regardless.

Frequently asked questions

Can AI make a usable logo?

Use it for concepts and marks, not final files. Diffusion output is raster and inconsistent at small sizes — generate ideas, then rebuild the chosen mark cleanly in vector software.

How do I stop AI logos from being cluttered and 3D?

Explicitly demand flat, minimal, vector style with simple shapes and a plain background, and push "gradient, 3d, bevel, drop shadow, texture, busy" into the negative prompt.
